Malibu Valley Spring Engagement Session | Laura + Nick

People like to say LA has no seasons (I’m guilty of that too, but I grew up with vastly changing seasons in Minnesota). But around February–March, we actually get a “rainy season” here. Meaning it rains a couple inches every once in a while.

But that little bit of rain can make for some really beautiful greenery in parks and in the mountains. Malibu Creek State Park is a great location, but it comes with the challenge of being different every time you go. Sometimes the hill is charred from wildfires or controlled burns. Sometimes the creek actually has running water that you have to cross to get to certain trails.

The ever-changing state of this park means it never gets old. Even for Laura and Nick, who both grew up nearby and came to this park often. Nick told me about how the creek used to always have lots of water in it all the time. They told me about all the different trails that are so beautiful (I’ve never actually hiked here but have done many shoots in the main trailhead area). They knew they wanted to do their shoot at this park in honor of its connection to their pasts and to their relationship.

I had a blast with these two laid-back D.C.-dwellers and can’t wait for their wedding at Quail Ranch in 2022!
