Intimate Pasadena Chinese Tea Ceremonies | Judy + Chris
All of my couples have been handling the pandemic so gracefully, despite having to completely change what they had in mind for their weddings. Judy and Chris went through all of this, changing their wedding plans from a large event in May to an October date, ultimately way downsizing and changing to a different October date. And their new date consisted of just the tea ceremonies and opting to postpone the nuptials for a different time. With all these changes, they were troopers throughout the whole process!
The morning started with a Chinese tea ceremony at Judy’s family’s house, followed by another ceremony at Chris’ family’s house. The day was complete with THREE dresses worn by Judy—a traditional Chinese dress for the first tea ceremony, a lovely white dress for the second, and a comfy casual dress for lunch. One thing I absolutely love about shooting weddings and living in Los Angeles is getting to experience the traditions of other cultures and religions, so documenting their tea ceremonies was really special for me.
Pretty sure my jaw actually dropped when I saw the guys carrying this whole roasted pig up to the house as a gift to Judy’s family.
With tea ceremonies, it’s traditional for the groom’s side to bring gifts for the bride and her family. Most of the gifts were covered with a cloth such as this one.
I can’t even begin to explain how good this thing smelled!!
