Santa Barbara Courthouse Elopement on Zoom | Harshit + Camellia

Harshit and Camellia are friends of mine and my husband’s, going back to Andrew and Harshit being office buddies for a few years when Andrew first moved out to LA. When they decided to tie the knot in a very intimate way due to Covid (obviously Indian weddings aren’t going to happen for a while…), they reached out to me to photograph it.

Camellia is originally from SoCal, so when she and Harshit started dating, they often went on weekend trips to introduce Harshit to SoCal beyond LA. Santa Barbara quickly became a special place for them that they’d travel to often to get away for a day- or overnight-trip, so there wasn’t much of a question on where they wanted to get married. The Santa Barbara County Courthouse lawn was the glaringly obvious choice for their intimate ceremony location.

The only guests were Camellia’s parents, her sister, and her sister’s partner. Well, and me and Andrew I suppose haha. Harshit’s family is in India, and they tuned into the Zoom broadcast of the ceremony at 4am local time!! Many friends attended the Zoom broadcast as well, both local and not, and I’m pretty sure there were over 100 people in “attendance”. It was a true Zoom wedding with Harshit’s parents saying a blessing over the broadcast as well as some champagne toasts immediately following the ceremony.

It was seriously an absolutely beautiful day, and I’m so honored to have been able to play a special part by documenting this intimate elopement. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
